
Brown Sauce (basic recipe)
Salty Curry
This is a basic recipe for a delicious and versatile brown sauce. It goes perfectly with meat dishes, macaroni casserole, or mashed potatoes.
Ingredients
| 50 g | butter |
| 45 ml | wheat flour |
| 500 ml | water |
| 1 pcs | beef bouillon cube |
| 2.5 ml | salt |
| 1.3 ml | white pepper |
Instructions
Prepare the roux
Melt 50 g butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add 45 ml wheat flour and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture is a nice brown color (be careful not to burn it).
Add liquid and boil
Gradually whisk in 500 ml water while stirring vigorously to prevent lumps. Bring the sauce to a boil.
Thicken the sauce
Let the sauce simmer gently for a few minutes until it thickens. Stir in 1 pcs beef bouillon cube.
Season the sauce
Add 2.5 ml salt and 1.3 ml white pepper. Mix well and taste. Adjust seasoning if needed.
Serve
Serve the brown sauce hot, for example with meat dishes or potatoes.
