Tortilla Wraps

Homemade wheat tortillas are soft and flavorful breads that serve as the perfect base for a Tex-Mex dinner. These easy and affordable wraps are pan-fried in a dry skillet until beautifully spotted.

250 gwheat flour
3 mlsalt
150 mlwater
30 mloil

Steps

Mixing dry ingredients

In a large bowl, mix together 250 g wheat flour and 3 ml salt.

Adding liquids

Add 150 ml water and 30 ml oil to the flour mixture.

Kneading the dough

Knead the ingredients in the bowl until they form a cohesive mass, then move the dough to a work surface to knead it into a smooth ball.

Resting the dough

Cover the dough ball with a clean kitchen towel and let it rest at room temperature for at least 15 minutes.

Dividing the pieces

Cut the rested dough into 8 pcs equal-sized pieces and roll them into small balls.

Heating the pan

Heat a dry, preferably non-coated skillet or cast iron pan over medium heat without any grease.

Rolling the wraps

Sprinkle some flour on the work surface and roll out the dough balls one at a time into circles as thin as possible, about 20 cm in diameter.

Frying the tortillas

Lift the tortilla onto the hot pan and fry for about 1–2 minutes per side, until bubbles rise to the surface and brown spots form.

Keeping warm

Stack the finished wraps inside aluminum foil and a kitchen towel to keep them soft and warm until serving.
